Mandarin Chinese grammar is more straightforward than you might imagine
- In English, we differentiate between “I” and “me.” In Mandarin, both are simply wǒ.
- “He,” “she,” and “it” are all pronounced the same: just say tā.
- English has many past-tense forms (“was,” “were,” “did,” “done,” “has,” “have,” “had,” “could,” “would,” “might”). Mandarin keeps it simple: add le to the verb. “Eat, ate, eaten” becomes “eat le.” Want to say someone slept? Just say “sleep le.” Easy!
